STEADFAST JUPITER 2022: 1GNC NOW READY FOR NRF23

The computer-assisted command post exercise (CAX/CPX) portion of the three-layer NATO Exercise STEADFAST JUPITER 2022 (STJU22) was the final exercise for 1 German- Netherlands Corps (1GNC) to certify for its role as NATO Response Force 2023 (NRF23). It helped 1GNC become an even more effective NATO high readiness force headquarters. Now, with STJU22 in the books, 1GNC is ready to lead the NATO RESPONSE FORCE in 2023.

Certification Exercise
Sponsored by Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and directed by the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), the tactical-level CAX/CPX was designed to train and evaluate 1 German-Netherlands Corps (1GNC) for NATO Response Force 2023 (NRF23), under the lead of Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC Naples). It took place at the Joint Warfare Center in Stavanger, Norway and involved more than 700 military and civilian personnel. Besides the location JWC provided the exercise with Subject Matter Experts and training staff. The exercise script was based on a fictitious Article 5
scenario with a predefined scheme of manoeuver and delivered challenges on the tactical level. This contributes to 1GNC’s significant role within NRF23.  Focus was also set on modern Command and Control, Joint Effects and enablement for high- intensity warfighting against a peer/near-peer adversary.

NATO RESPONSE FORCE
While the exercise was challenging, 1GNC is now ready and looking ahead to January 1, 2023, when it officially assumes its role as NRF Land Component Command 2023. The NRF has the overarching purpose of being able to provide a rapid military response to an emerging crisis, whether for collective defence purposes or for other crisis-response operations. It gives the Alliance the means to respond swiftly to various types of crises anywhere in the world. To respond to that great challenge it is necessary to regularly train the Land Component Command as well as its subordinate units.

“We must all want to be the best version of ourselves. That must come from within and we all know that today’s world is an unforgiving one – we owe that to our soldiers, sailors and airmen and to our nations. They expect nothing less than that.”

Lieutenant General Nico Tak, Commander 1GNC
