Exercise Reliable Sword was conducted in Harskamp, Nieuw Milligen and in the area south of Arnhem in the Netherlands between 6 and 23 May. Around 4,000 troops participated in this Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Field Training Exercise (FTX). The aim of the exercise was to train the units of the NATO Response Force (NRF) 2015 and other participating units under the command of Headquarters 1 (GE/NL) Corps in a role as a Joint Task Force Headquarters Land (JTF HQ (L)).
Participants from 12 nations, including units from Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States, the Netherlands and a Maritime Command Component were trained in planning, commanding and executing of (air mobile) operations. During Reliable Sword, the Dutch 11 Air Manoeuvre Brigade was certified as an Immediate Response Force for NRF 2015.
Exercise Reliable Sword was the first of 1 (GE/NL) Corps’ ‘triple jump’ to become part of the NATO Response Force 2015 (NRF 15). This major exercise will be followed by exercises Noble Ledger in September and Trident Juncture in November. In 2015, 1 (GE/NL) Corps will be on stand-by as the NRF 15 Land Component Command.
